Back to school maybe ? ……

Coloursmith are a  strong believer in the view that you never stop learning.  Although I have been in this industry for over 20 years now and although my formal industrial training ended more years ago then I care to remember.  I am always looking for opportunities to learn more on an industry that continually fascinates me.   To do this i try amongst other ways to attend industry based lectures  and other events that are relating to my industry as often as possible in the hope of picking up some nugget of information.  To this end we will be attending  the Streatham Festival tomorrow night.  For a lecture entitled “Imperial Purple to Denim Blue, The colourful history of textiles”  It is given by Dr Susan Kay-Williams who is the Chief Executive of the Royal School of Needlework and a Member of the Dulwich Decorative and Fine Arts Society.  It promises to be a fascinating introduction to the history of dyed textiles and Fashion.  As someone who was introduced to textiles back in the 1980’s you may wonder why I am interested in such an event.  Well I am always interested to hear what is being said about our industry and to get a view of what non potentially non technical people are told and learn about our industry. There is also an opportunity to discuss possible future lectures for the London Region of the SDC, Society of Dyers and Colourists, which I am a London Region Committee member. So all in all this promises to be an interesting evening and hopefully a productive one, I will report back on the evenings events.
